As of July-end the number of deaths in Gaza exceeded 60 thousand from 2023. The figure is an official number confirmed by the Gaza’s health authority. It is said that over another thousands of people are buried in the rubbles. Food shortage is in an extreme phase. It is because Israeli authorities use foodstuff as a weapon.
Tragedy of innumerable deaths from starvation
An organization backed by the United States and Israel, called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began in late May 2025 to extend humanitarian aid, alternating the United Nations. But attacks against the Gazan residents have continued in the vicinities of food distribution sites.
Israeli authorities had insisted that ‘famine is not underway’ as no restrictions were made in transporting materials, but on July 27 its military announced to implement a ‘tactical humanitarian pause in operations’ from 10:00 in the morning till 8:00 in the evening in some areas of Gaza amid the growing accusations from both of the international and domestic communities.
According to a report of the Al Jazeera news agency, however, the Israeli military attacked Gazan people, even several hours after the notice, which resulted in at least 63 deaths on the day and another six people died of hunger due to the life-threatening shortage of food because of the blockade.
A Palestinian State to be recognized by France, Uk and Canada
Twenty-eight countries, including Australia and Japan, and the EU issued a joint statement on July 21, demanding to enable for the UN and NGOs, instead of the GHF, to extend humanitarian activities, requesting immediate ceasefire at the same time. But Israel, rejecting the offer, intensified operations further and attacked the UN’s warehouse of medicines.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned Israel, saying that ‘Palestinians in Gaza endure humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions.’
The international community has heightened accusations against Israel which continues genocide in Gaza. It is for the first time for the G7 members, such as France, the UK, and Canada, to express a decision to recognize Palestine as a State in the United Nations General Assembly scheduled in September. At the moment over 150 countries have recognized Palestine as a state.
Japan will postpone recognition
Two organizations inside Israel have issued reports that define the military operations against Gaza by their own country as ‘genocide in the context of the international laws,’ but the Netanyahu government would not retreat from its resolute stance.
The two-State solution is an international trend, but the Japanese government puts off a decision, explaining ‘(it) continues to examine in a comprehensive manner’, and obeys the US government’s stance.
The Japanese government should assert ‘No!’ against Israel and the United States which do not respond to ceasefire.

Ｇ７仏英加が承認
豪・日など28カ国とＥＵは７月21日、即時停戦を求めるとともにＧＨＦによる援助ではなく国連やＮＧＯの人道活動を可能にするよう共同声明を出した。だが、イスラエルは拒否。軍事作戦を拡大し、国連の医薬品倉庫も攻撃した。
国連のグテーレス事務総長は、「ガザのパレスチナ人は、とんでもない規模の人道的大惨事に耐えている」とイスラエルに警告した。
ガザでジェノサイドを続けるイスラエルに対する国際的な非難が高まっている。フランス、イギリス、カナダがＧ７のメンバーとして初めてだが、国連総会が開催される９月にも、パレスチナを国家承認する意向を表明した。パレスチナを国家承認した国はすでに１５０カ国以上になっている。
日本は承認先送り
イスラエル国内では２つの人権団体が初めて、自国のガザでの戦闘行為について「国際法上のジェノサイドにあたる」とする報告書を発表した。しかし、ネタニヤフ政権は強硬姿勢を崩していない。
２つの国家の承認が国際社会の流れだが、日本は米に追従し、「引き続き総合的に検討する」として先送りしている。日本政府は停戦に応じないイスラエル・米に「ＮＯ！」を突き付けるべきだ。
