No. 1269 77th Anniversary of Japan’s Defeat in WWII
We will commemorate the 77th anniversary of the atomic bombing over Hiroshima and the Day of Defeat on August 15 under these uneasy circumstances. Japan invaded to China to kill people there, and ushered in a reckless war against the United States to be crushed, putting an end to the atrocious conducts. Let’s look back what happened. It was an official face of defending the nation that triggered all criminal acts.
JAPAN SHOULD NOT MAKE HERSELF TO BE ONE OF ORDINARY NATIONS
A NATO summit meeting was held in the end of June, in which US President Biden declared that ‘the allied nations had been convened to respond to both of the challenges posed by Russia and China’ adding that ‘the world had changed’.
Japan attempts to take the lead in encircling China
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, who joined the meeting though Japan is not the alliance’s member, told ‘the recent aggression to Ukraine clearly tells us the end of post-Cold War era’, requesting the European participants to vigorously commit in the affairs of the Asia-Pacific Region.
The premier is intended to link the two powerful military pacts, the NATO and US-Japan Alliance, and to take initiative in containing China. That is why the ruling Liberal Democratic Party raised unconcealed proposals during the election campaign in July to increase the defense budget, to attain capabilities to attack enemy bases and to revise the Peace Constitution.
The Cold War ended due to the collapse of the Soviet Union. During the post-Cold War era US President Obama presented a package of nuclear disarmament policies and the NATO members attempted to disarm and reduce military budgets, which has led to a basic rule in which investments should be made in environment rather than in military build-up.
Meanwhile, however, the NATO’s eastward expansion and President Putin’s ambition for Great Russia have developed to a critical phase of tension. The US demanded the NATO allies to spend over 2% of the GDPs on military expenditure. A war is a convenient means for the military industries to make money without fail.
The war in Ukraine has reversed the world. A network to besiege China was built up promptly. Major international players, including US, have taken a wild path. Premier Kishida pledged in the international arena to play a leading role in the same strategy.
‘Ordinary nations’ have military troops, whose military budgets count over 2% of the GDP as the international norm, and Japan, too, should follow the way – for this purpose, Article Nine of the Constitution is a yoke to be removed; this is the elaborated propaganda we see today.
Peoples in Asia
If Japan dumps Article Nine to build up military strength, how will Asian peoples respond who never forget the colonial rule imposed by Japan? The Japanese government regards the post-war compensation issue as settled. The Asian peoples simply judge Japan does not remorse over the devastations it inflicted on them during the last war.
Japan depends on the US nuclear umbrella more and more meticulously. ‘Nuclear deterrence’ will be intensified in the region so that neighbors should save own countries from Japan.
Peoples in the region appreciate developing countries affected by the war in Ukraine, being in favor of relations with China. Koreans wish to be reunified. Let’s think over how threatening it will be for them if Japan turns to be an ‘ordinary nation’. China is the biggest trade partner of Japan. Adversarial relations will severely hit its economy.
On August 15, the Day of Defeat, let’s make firm determination that Japan should never be an ordinary nation.
Let’s struggle bravely! Do not draw back as we face various attacks to alter the Constitution!
