Israel enjoys authorization from the United States
President Biden visited Israel just after the country had launched preparatory works to attack Gaza, and he expressed his support. He requested Israel to ‘minimize civilian casualties’, but it is impossible to think that he could not know that air bombings mean genocide of Palestinian people.
As of October 28, the number of victims counted almost 8 thousand in the Gaza Strip and medical services there have been collapsed as Israel blocks transportation of lifesaving materials.
The United States vetoed October 16 a resolution of the United Nations Security Council calling for ‘humanitarian pauses’ in the conflict. Furthermore, Mr. Biden demanded the US Congress to allocate 2.1 trillion yen of budget as an emergency military aid to Israel. The president declared it as ‘unprecedented’, saying, to our surprise, that ‘just as in World War Two, patriotic American workers are building the arsenals of democracy’.
US is proven to be solitary
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres requested to be calm, saying that ‘it is important to also recognize the attacks of Hamas did not happen in vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation’. But as long as the US aid continues, genocide due to ground invasion and long-term atrocities cannot be stoppable.
The United Nations General Assembly had a meeting October 27 to adopt a resolution, calling for ‘immediate, sustainable humanitarian truce leading to cessation of hostilities’, ‘the rescinding of the order by Israel for Palestinian civilians and the UN staff to evacuate from the northern region to the southern Gaza’, and ‘immediate and unconditional release of all civilians illegally held captive’. It had 120 votes in favor to 14 against, which includes the US, with 45 abstentions, which include Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and India.
Canada, together with Japan, presented a draft amendment to condemn Hamas, but it failed to pass. The isolation of the United States, which used to be an ‘advocate of democracy’, was so evident, even if it is compared with Russia.
Uncertainties in the world
Politics in the US has been in impasse. The country has fallen from the status of the greatest economic power, and inside the country middle-class people have been exhausted. It has serious contradictions, in which a monster, ex-President Trump, is still wandering. The Republicans and the Democrats are competing over hostilities to China.
A presidential election will be held soon in the US; as for the Palestinian issue, the focal point lies in how to scramble votes of the rightwing Christians. The powerful military nation is dismayed politically in the harsh, erratic chaos, impacting on the world affairs as the biggest factor of uncertainties.
Now, look at Japan. The country is coupled militarily with the US through the so-called ‘three documents on national security’. Unless the government of Japan quits the bilateral alliance as promptly as possible, people cannot sleep in safety.

国連総会会合は10月27日、「敵対行為の停止につながる人道的休戦」「北部から南部への市民や国連職員に対する退避勧告の撤回」「人質の即時解放」を求める決議を賛成１２０、反対は米国など14、棄権は日英独伊印など45で採択した。
カナダが日本などと共にハマス非難を明記する修正案を提出したが、否決された。「民主主義の擁護者」であったはずの米国の孤立は、ロシアの比ではない。
世界の不安材料
米国政治は混迷を極めている。経済大国から転落し、中間層の没落など深刻な矛盾を抱えている米国では、怪物・トランプ前大統領が未だに徘徊し、共和と民主が対中国敵視で競い合っている。
米国の大統領選挙で、パレスチナ問題はキリスト教右派票の争奪が焦点だ。強大な軍事大国の政治が予測不能の混迷を極めているのは、世界にとって最大の不安材料である。
